The program's capacity to process huge amounts of data can be used to enhance the performance of the scanner in two ways:
- The measurement error due to Gaussian noise can be reduced by combining repeated scans. For example, the scanning noise is halved when four scans are processed into a single mathematical model.
- Scanning an object at the highest possible resolution minimizes the noise in the resulting model, while preserving a maximum number of surface details.
